The Pagan Front

1. Heilsa! Please introduce yourself and your band, tell the story of its creation from the beginning till now on.

Well first thank you for this interview and for considering us for your publication. I will try my best to give a quick breakdown of our years without dragging on if possible. Geimhre came to be in the year 2001 with three members and long time friends, Guerfaul who played bass and did vocals, Krauthamer on drums and myself Vintrtrol on Guitars. During this same year we released a very rough 4 track demo entitled “Unholy Celtic Land”. We posted most of the tracks on the website MP3.com, which was the “My Space” of the time. We received quite a bit of positive feedback and continued to write. So, we decided in 2002 or 2003 to add a second guitar player and a bass player. Which we found both sometime in between those years, Wiatr on guitar and Myrrdraal on bass. Myrrdraal was replaced by Adrammelech shortly after. This line up was a permanent one up until 2006 and saw the releases of our 7 inch split release with Ad Hominem, our “Cogadh” demo, and the “For The Blood of Hinterland” and “Mollachd” releases. Shortly after the release of Mollachd things went to shit for Geimhre. Krauthamer and Adrammelch decided to part ways to pursue their own musical preferences…and shortly after that Wiatr had to leave the band, and moved to a different province. This is when we came into contact with Morok from the band Svartskog, who agreed to join up as a second guitarist. We jammed together without a drummer for some months working on a few tracks here and there. Then we came into contact with a drummer by the name of Drekavac. In 2007 we re recorded a couple of “Unholy Celtic Land” tracks for a limited release called “Hinterland Suthainn” to see how things worked together. We all clicked and began working and writing our latest release “Noidagh”. We added yet another member at this time named Zamnaku on bass as well. It took quite sometime to write actually, and was released at the end of 2008. Geimhre has been off and on after that release and since then Drekavac and Zamnaku had left. Wiatr has returned, Morok has moved to bass, and a new drummer named Oboroten has joined up. I am sure I have missed a few members that joined here and there bass and drum spots have been a revolving door of sorts, but that’s the just of it and I don’t want to ramble on.

2. Tell us about your plans for the future. What’s new in the Geimhre camp?

We have a solid line up once again and 2012 will bring a new release, with all new songs. Our line up now consists of Guerfaul – Vocals, Wiatr – Guitars, Morok – Bass, Oboroten – Drums and myself Vintrtrol – Guitars. Currently we have close to 8 tracks written, with plans to have them released through Darker Than Black before the spring of this year (or when they can). We also plan to play a few gigs as well, which is rare for us. We are very “picky” as to who we would play with, so we are waiting for the right band or bands to come to town and then we will play.

3. How did your cooperation with Ad Hominem come about? Why exactly did you decide to release the split 7”?

Myself and Guerfaul had been speaking with K.W. since 2002 I believe, whenever “Planet Zog” was released. One day he emailed us and said he had recorded a Black Sabbath cover song and wanted to release a split. He had a label that was interested, Undercover Records and then asked if we were interested. We were going to do a cover track as well of another Black Sabbath track “Electric Funeral” but opted to release a new track at the time “We Are the Wolves…” At the time it was a big thing for us because we didn’t really have much label interest at the time, other then tape labels.

4. Your band is known for quite strong ties with Vinlandic Black Metal legends Grand Belilal’s Key. You played a show with them in Toronto in 2004, your debut album was released through Vinland Winds records, the label of Grimnir Heretik, GBK’s vocalist at the time, Gelal has expressed his support of Geimhre and stated that he wanted to play a show with you. Please, tell us more about this.

At the time of playing that gig we actually never spoke with Gelal at all. I had limited contact with Rich (Grimnir) and only spoke a few times over the internet. How it all happened was a promoter in Toronto wanted to bring some bands to the city that have never been there before. Bands out of the norm or extreme. He contacted many bands, and off the top of my head I recall Krieg and Nunslaughter being talked to. Krieg was actually confirmed to play also at one time, but later backed out. This promoter was also a friend of ours and wanted us to play, as we never play live and had a reputation throughout the underground as being out of the norm or extreme if you will. It was a great gig for our first “try” and yes after that gig many positive things came our way. The turn out was great and an unexpected large group attended, not including the security ha-ha. There is video footage of this event floating around I am sure. Maybe someone will post it on YouTube one of these days.

5. Your debut album was a pinnacle of your musical work at the time when it was released in 2005. Looking back, how do you evaluate your work on that album? How did cooperation with Vinland Winds come into being?

Yes in my opinion this was probably our best work (besides our recent material that is), with multiple musical elements. Each track had a different feel to it. The only thing that extremely bothers me about the release is the mastering. I would love it if a label was willing to reissue this album, remixed and remastered. The master tracks are long lost but I am sure someone out there would be able to assist us. After our gig with GBK, Rich “signed” us as he said he was impressed by our sound etc. The release didn’t get much of a push and is still pretty hard to find I believe, besides the digital format. Another reason we would like it reissued one day.

6. The album covered a wide scope of various lyrical topics, such as destruction of Christianity and Zionism, hatred toward the Muslim religion and values, love for your own Race, people and place where you were raised. What was the influence for you writing such lyrics?

I cannot speak for Guerfaul who had written the lyrics. But living in a city such as ours, which is probably one of the largest multicultural cities in the world, it’s hard not to express these feelings. And to feel like your race and culture are being whipped out. Canada has an open door to immigration and most of them (immigrants) want to live in our province. They leach off our system, taking advantage of everything they possibly can. They want everything for free and feel it’s their right to take. Kind of like gypsies. They come here and our government does not force them to accept our culture, but encourages them to force their culture on others. For example, we are currently being overrun by Muslims and they are protesting that our schools should give them prayer rooms to pray. I say fuck you! I could go on and on but as I said I cannot speak for Guerfaul, but I am sure this example and the many others we face daily are what inspires his lyrics.

7. Share your thoughts on your second album. What differs it from the debut one?

Our second album “Noidagh” was supposed to be a more straight Black Metal release. More aggressive and in your face then our “Mollachd” release. There were minimal folk parts as well on “Noidagh”. But the biggest difference was the absence of Wiatr, who is such an amazing musician and adds so much to a release. With “Noidagh” as well, the recording was rushed. If one listens to each of our releases they will find that none of them really sound the same. There may be some riffing that might have that “Geimhre” sound, but musically they all differ. That will be the case with our newest release as well. Totally different from our previous endeavors, in my opinion.

8. If you wish, please tell about different artistic collaborations which took place during all of Geimhre’s history.

Well most of our members have contributed to various other project or side projects over the years. Most notably I would say the side project Fomorii which had all members of Geimhre contributing. Another project was that of Wiatr, with the same name. Both Fomorii and Wiatr released a split via Black Metal dot Com Records in 2007. Morok has had his side project Svartskog for quite some time as well, which he started in 2002. There was also another project entitled Wolfhammer Division which recorded a demo in 2004. But Geimhre has been keeping us busy these days, so I cannot foresee any other projects on the horizon but you never can tell.

9. In an old interview with you I read that you had plans of creating a R.A.C. project. Did this ever come about? Please, dwell on your other projects too.

Yes we always talked about doing an RAC project. At times there has always been that RAC influence heard within our music. Our newest album will be close to 100% RAC influenced, mixed with very minimal Black Metal I would say. Like I said above, each album/release sounds different from one another and this newest release will be our most different to date. Lyrics and themes are different as well. These new songs are more traditional lyrically. There are no lyrics regarding our dislike for the various religions or people. This is a totally different Geimhre album. Some will possibly dislike this direction, but to be honest we do not give a shit! If you like it, good! If not we do not care! You will all hear in time.

10. What, according to you, is the main objective for Geimhre as a band, and for you personally. What do you wish to achieve with the band? Did your goals change during the years?

Geimhre’s initial intention was to first create good music, heavy extreme music. Secondly was to open the eyes of the thousands of sheep in our country and around the globe. Bringing to attention the realities around them. The never-ending flow of new immigrants coming into our country and contributing nothing to it. Bring to attention the realities of the various religions, and their desires to control and change things. Our goals or ideals are pretty much the same now as they were back then. Create good music and reach as many people as possible.

11. Tell us about the bands you consider comrades today, and also name the bands you were influenced by the most during your lifetime.

I really do not like to name drop so I will not drop names. But I personally have been influenced by bands like: Nokturnal Mortum, Absurd, Burzum, Darkthrone, Honor, Warhead, Graveland…to name a few of the top of my head.

12. Geimhre is a member of the Pagan Front. Dwell about your involvement with this organization, what are your thoughts on it, are there any alternatives for it today on the scene etc.

To be honest I have not really paid attention to what goes on within the organization for quite some time. I do notice and we are guilty of this as well, but the majority of the bands that are members are inactive. There are only a handful of bands that are actually releasing material to spread their word or the propaganda if you will. Member bands should be active. The other bands should be moved to supporters in my opinion. This is the digital age, so releasing material yourself is very easy. Bands need to post their material everywhere…expect to receive negative feedback. But there are some out there that will listen. More festivals, or gigs with member/supporter bands would be nice. But that is very hard also seeing as the bands are so spread out. These are probably the hardest times for the organization as the Black Metal “scene” is dying in my opinion.

13. What are your views on the modern NSBM scene and Black Metal scene. What do you think about mixing of NS and Satanic ideologies? Your thoughts on the so-called Orthodox and Anti-cosmic Black Metal.

I really have a hard time listening to any new Black Metal bands these days. The “scene” has been saturated with crap bands. There are really only a handful of bands I can stand listening too. To be honest also I have not really heard any newer NSBM bands to give an opinion. I will however make it my new year’s resolution to look into newer bands and to listen to more…but I have a feeling I might be disappointed.

14. Finish the interview in the way you wish.

Thank you again for waiting so long for our reply. As I mentioned previously expect a new Geimhre release very soon in 2012. We no longer have a website but we are on My Space still. Any news regarding Geimhre should be posted there. www.myspace.com/geimhreofficial Also once and when the release has been released I am sure news will be posted via the Darker Than Black website www.darker-than-black.com

Mezi kopci cesta je klikatá...

Gasthaus,
И надпись на нём гласит: “Zum Spiritus”

“Et Zum Spiritus Tuo”
